Environmental Leaders of Tomorrow Program

LakeStGeorge

Let's Create the Next Leaders of Tomorrow!

The Environmental Leaders of Tomorrow program serves "at risk" elementary schools within GTA as well as provincially. We are currently in initial planning stages to roll this out nationally. The schools are identified by local public and Catholic school boards. We are fortunate that contributions received from our partners will be matched by The W. Garfield Weston Family Foundation. We are proud to mention that our Environmental Leaders of Tomorrow program received an award for being one of the Top 15 projects from the Clean 50 summit for 2015.

The program utilizes a multi-phase, integrated approach to environmental education, in which classroom learning is combined with an overnight trip to one of Toronto and Region Conservation's (TRCA) field centres. Children need to experience the joy and the freedom associated with time spent in the outdoors. Research has found that physical activity in nature, coupled with their classroom learning, is crucial to their long term health, academic performance and overall happiness.

This Program Delivers Results!

The program was launched in 2007 with the support of The W. Garfield Weston Foundation. Since that time, the Weston Foundation has enabled over 410 classes and 11,094 students to participate, which has directly resulted in students undertaking 6,300 personal action projects..

Donor Spotlight - The Rotary Club of Toronto - August, 2016

It's hard to image a world where some children never get to experience learning in nature. The Rotary Club of Toronto donated $30,000 to help support the next generation of leaders for our communities. The W. Garfield Weston Foundation have generously matched this partner to reach a total gift of $60,000 for the Environmental Leaders of Tomorrow program!
